A few years ago I led a workshop about Manx patchwork. This traditional form of log cabin patchwork has no wadding/batting and relies on folded strips of fabric to produce the warmth. As a quilt it is incredibly heavy and uses a huge amount of fabric compared to traditional patchwork.

Above are some of the blocks produced on the day school by Sally, Liz and Sarah. It inspired many more projects in the class over the following months.

My workshop samples were made into set of cushions for Christmas in a traditional green and red colour scheme. I love the tactile nature of this form of patchwork and as I was updating my workshop notes into patterns, I made a set to work with my new blue patchwork chesterfields. The result is the Patterdale Cushion pattern

The Patterdale cushion pattern is now available in my Etsy shop. I have changed the traditional log cabin pattern and placed the block on point to produce a striking and extremely tactile cushion cover. It is a very versatile look ( not just for Christmas) and is suitable for making with 2½” strip sets plus matching fabric for borders and backing.
I am updating my Manx folded patchwork workshop instructions into patterns and more will be available soon, so look out for the next one which I have called Castlerigg, after Castlerigg stone circle just outside Keswick.
Happy Quilting and take care in this very hot weather
